Own Your Age, Own Your Power: It’s Time to Break the Age Taboo

Alright, ladies, it’s time to hop on my soapbox because there’s something we need to talk about—age, numbers, and why women still feel like they have to hide their age. Let’s be real: we’ve all felt the pressure. Social media, society, the constant whispers—“Don’t look too old!” But why is it that men get to wear their age like a badge of honor, while women are expected to quietly tuck theirs away? I am tired of double standards.

Let’s get something straight—age is just a number, and it’s time we own it. I’m 60 years old, and guess what? I’m not hiding it. I’ve got wrinkles, I’ve got laugh lines, and I’m proud of every single one of them. Why? Because they’re a testament to the life I’ve lived, the lessons I’ve learned, and the fact that I’m still out here learning new tricks (hello, AI!).

Why Are We Still Hiding?

Why do we, as women, feel the need to keep our age under wraps? Society has been feeding us this narrative that as we age, we become less valuable. That our worth is somehow tied to how youthful we look. But here’s the thing—these aren’t my thoughts. These are the thoughts we’ve been conditioned to believe by the world around us. And it’s time to flip the script.

Why should we hide our age when it’s proof of our growth, our wisdom, and our resilience? Men wear their age proudly, like a badge of honor. So why shouldn’t we?

Breaking the Norms

I want to shatter this “I’m not normal” norm that society has built around women and aging. Do I do my best to keep things fresh? You bet I do. I get my facials, I indulge in a little Botox here and there, but guess what? It doesn’t erase the wrinkles—and I’m okay with that. Because I’m not trying to erase who I am.

I’m Mary Fain Brandt, I’m 60, and I’m still valuable as heck. I’m constantly evolving, learning new things, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. And I’m here to tell you that you can, too. Let’s change the narrative so that the next generation of women don’t have to hide anything. Let’s make it so they can proudly own their age, their stories, and their power.

Let’s Flip the Script

So here’s my challenge to you: Stop hiding. Start owning. Embrace your age and everything that comes with it, because it’s part of what makes you, you. Let’s show the world that women of all ages are powerful, valuable, and absolutely unstoppable.

I’m 60, and I’m still learning. I’m still growing. And I’m still every bit as valuable as I’ve ever been. Now, let’s go out there and show the world that age is nothing but a number—and a pretty damn powerful one at that.
