π Let's unravel the LinkedIn labyrinth: Followers vs. Connections π
Ever felt like you're hosting a grand ball with an open invitation, and then realize you only know a handful of guests? That's a bit like having thousands of connections on LinkedIn!
Creator Mode made you choose to follow but that is changing. I have creator mode but went back to connect.
Now, LinkedIn is shaking things upβgiving us the choice between a 'Follow' button or the OG 'Connect' button. Here's why I'm sticking to my 'Follow' squad and you might consider it too:
π₯ Connections:
-
These are your inner circle on LinkedIn.
-
Best for folks you've actually shared a coffee or at least a few hearty emails with.
-
Pro tip: Keep this list tight-knit. After all, it's a network, not a net-catch-all!
π Followers:
-
Your very own fan club! (No autographs, please!)
-
The go-to for peeps who dig your vibe and content, but don't necessarily know your favorite coffee blend.
-
This is the grand ball, where everyone's welcome to bask in your professional glow from a friendly distance.
Historically, I've got about 12k connections, and let's be realβI don't know all of them like my favorite barista, Joe. (Hey, Joe!) But things were different back in the day. Connecting was how we rolled, and it was all about making waves in the visibility pool. Nowadays, I play the connection game like a strategic game of chess, adding and removing with equal gusto. If only trimming connections without losing followers was as easy as skipping ads!
π‘ Remember:
-
Starting out? Connect away! It's like laying down your dance floor.
-
Connections give you a visibility boost and help you initially build that follower count.
-
As you groove along, sharing top-notch content, and mingling in comment sections, you'll find connection invites waltzing into your inbox. VoilΓ ! Your followers grow, and you don't even need to say "yes" to every dance.
And yes, with connections, you get the power to slide into DMs. But let's be honest, are we really looking to DM every one of our followers? Unless you're spreading some kind of inbox fairy dust, it's not the royal road to meaningful engagement.
So, ask yourself: Is a DM to someone you barely know better than a thoughtful comment on their post? I vote noβlet's put the 'social' in social networking!
Stay connected when it counts, follow for the fun, and watch your LinkedIn kingdom thrive! π
