The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your LinkedIn Network Over a Vanilla Latte
LinkedIn can be a powerful tool for professional networking, but did you know that commenting on other members' posts can be just as valuable as posting your own content? To truly brew success on LinkedIn, it's important to understand the art of commenting and how it can help you percolate your network.
First of all, let's avoid the grounds of overposting.
Flooding the platform with your content can come across as too strong, like an espresso shot, that makes your hair stand up on end — and be intrusive to your connections. The key is to find the perfect balance between posting and commenting, enough to not come across as obnoxious.
The crema of commenting on other members' posts is that it shows you're actively engaged in the LinkedIn community. Before you comment, take the time to sip and savor the post, listen to the podcast, or watch the video in its entirety. This not only shows respect for the content creator but also helps you leave a more substantial comment, with more flavor and depth.
A five-word comment is the minimum, but what's most important is the value you add to the conversation. Avoid just saying "great post" *sigh* , instead continue the conversation started by the author. End with a question to stir up further discussion. Don’t be afraid to disagree (in a professional way) or to add your insights which might differ from the author.
Reciprocation is the whipped cream on top of the coffee. Give to receive. If you want to receive engagement on your own posts, it's essential to engage with others first. One technique is to follow a 7:1 ratio, commenting on 7 posts for every one you create. This not only shows your engagement in the community but also builds a support reputation, leading to potential reciprocation.
The aroma of commenting on posts written by highly followed and respected LinkedIn members can be intoxicating. It shows alignment and riding on their coat tails, as well as increasing your reach beyond your first and second level connections. It's like taking a sip of a well-crafted latte from a well-respected coffee shop, elevating your reputation as a part of the community.
Find the balance between posting and commenting, add value to the conversations, and engage with others to build a support reputation and reach beyond your immediate connections. And remember, always enjoy the process with a hot cup of Joe.
To good coffee and great comments!
